The SF Half Marathon! Great Job!

Great job everyone on the SF Half Marathon! That was a BRUTAL course and I am so proud of everyone for finishing and not being carried away by ambulance! Though I'm still sore and in pain right now, I really enjoyed that run (I had a major runner's high) and I don't regret any minute of it or running with all of you great peeps.

Keep Fit, Keep Strong.....V

PS...I signed up for the LB Marathon.

http://www.facebook.com/NWM26.2?sk=info#!/NWM26.2

I'm also interested in Bay to Breakers (May 2012) since I heard it's full of crazies <3

Man, SF has a lot of good races...they need to bring the crazies down to SoCal!

Marathon Training

So I was looking at the training from Hal Higdon's and RunnersWorld, and Hal's seem easier to understand then RW's (http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-244--6946-3-3X5X7-4,00.html). After looking at the Intermediate I level training (http://www.halhigdon.com/marathon/inter1.html), I am now quite scared of the training for a full marathon haha....

That is all...

Long Beach Marathon

Hi Fellow Runners,

I'm all signed up for the Long Beach FULL Marathon. I figured signing up now would help me stay committed, as if SF and Disney wasn't motivation enough.

The full marathon is about $96.85 after all the fees were included and you have about 7 hours in which to complete the race. I put 4:26 - 4:45 as my estimated finish time.

For those chickens ;) interested in the half, it will cost about $76.85. But just think, for $20 more you get a bigger medal, potentially more fishy cakes (cuz you'll have burned so many calories that you'll be starving),  bragging rights, but even more importantly the knowledge that you started this journey having only ever ran 5 miles or less and were able to push your body and mind to 26.2 miles.

The race to a 13.1 mile finish was something I myself thought I never could or never would accomplish. But with a little help from my our FEMBA running group, I did it, we all did. I'm so excited for the next challenge to try and hit the 26.2 mile mark. I hope all of you will join me in this next adventure. I know we all can do it :).

OC Marathon Runner...Runs Wrong Way

Guys,
I just thought I would share this story with you. This just goes to show that the "runner's high" is such a zen-like feeling that you lose realization of what you are doing or where you are going. Here is an example where the runner, who was winning in the women's race, ended up following the guide and being led the wrong way, losing her official finish as the winner...although I believe they gave her the first place prize anyway. I don't think I'm related to her, but I'm sure I probably am somehow. Sucks big time to lose this way.

LA Boxing

I just tried out this boxing class at LA boxing and MAN! It's such a great work out and so much fun. I'm already having a hard time lifting my arms up after that class. I would highly recommend it especially if you like punching the crap outta something. You can try out one class for free to test it out. I went to the one in HB but there's one in Costa Mesa as well.

Let me know if any of you are interesting in trying it out. I'm already signed up for the next 2 months at least.

(also ran 3 miles+other exercises during lunch!)

lack of pain/excess of laziness

Well I am finally on here and heres my little update for all my fellow runners!

I have probably run around 20 miles since the surf city half marathon yea thats not good at all :P

so my plan now is to set it on hyperdrive and get back into the groove of things and run my normal 12 miles a week for this next month or so and slowly build it back up to my normal 20 miles a week but as Al has said a 10 minute pace is needed so im gonna push myself to do 10 min or lower pace aswell. The first time out was to just do it but this time around i gotta beat a certain time.

well my current schedule would be to do 4-6 miles on tuesday and thursday and then the sunday 6-8 mile run. Then theres golf and paintballing :P a wide array of sports yes but its a complete workout that way :D

anyways thats my plan for the next few months!

see you guys on wed.!

Ran 5 Miles This Morning

Just wanted to keep up with this blog, great job Kristina! This morning I ran 5 miles at an average pace of 10 minutes. For the SF marathon, I made a personal goal of running at this pace, which would put me at 2 hours and 11 minutes. Things are going well, but haven't had the opportunity to go over 5 miles yet since March 26, the beginning of my comeback tour (Month of March was pretty much a vacation from running due to finals, spring break and daylight savings). Since we will be completely focused on Sunday (no other sports going on), I am excited about maybe hitting 8 miles. Anybody have an idea of where they want to run this Sunday? I am thinking of Mile Square Park since 8 miles would get me twice around. When we do 10.5 we can do Back Bay (following week?) Albert

San Francisco Trip!

Great job on the blog Kristina! It looks amazing and thanks for doing this for us.

I just wanted to recap on our San Francisco plans for everyone:

Signed up for SF Half Marathon:
1. Me
2. K. Salvati
3. K. Sun
4. All Star Al
5. K. Stein
6. K. Kobayashi
7. Shiba 5000
8. T. Nguyen
9. O. Yunus
10. H. Wade

Everyone but Heather will be staying at The Westin at Union Square where the room per night (ind. tax/fees) is $166.44 per night, per room. I have 3 rooms booked with 9 people so far. If we're doing 4 people per room, I have 3 slots left for whoever wants to come up to SF with us!

UPDATED: So far, everyone who's signed up are confirmed to stay until Monday Aug 1: Me, Kristina, Shiba, Karen, Tung, Albert, Kason, Omar, and Kobe. I have two rooms extended for this. The split will be 5 and 4 in each room (we better like each other because we're going to be really close together haha).

I assumed that everyone will be coming in on Friday except for Karen. Please let me know if you're not coming in on Friday and will be coming in on Saturday, this will change the pricing for Friday stayers a little.

I will be taking the entire Friday off and plan to fly in around noon time or early afternoon and fly back in on Monday afternoon/evening (after checking out and grabbing a last meal). For those who want to fly with me, let me know, and we'll get together and buy plane tickets. We should probably do this soon for the lowest prices. Whatever time you're flying in/out, traveling with a buddy is always better and safer!

Run with the wind...V

Welcome!!!

Hi Guys,

Welcome to our blog. I thought this would be a fun way for us to not only start somewhat of a journal to track our own personal fitness experiences but also to share some our achievements and knowledge will our fellow athletes.

It's kinda funny that most of us started our little running club just with the intention of running Surf City and never doing a another marathon again. It definitely was a check on my Bucket List. Now we've gotten addicted whether it be for our own sense of personal achievement, the medals, or for fishy cakes ;).  Our journey to Surf City has quickly turn into the journey to SF, LB, and beyond. I so happy we all decided to do this (many props to Vanessa for getting us all started on this). You guys all motivate me everyday to run fast and train harder.

I do hope that more of you will consider the LB Full Marathon. I know that 26.2 miles seems like a daunting and somewhat painful task. But so did 13.1 miles initially. I am confident that we can build up our milage with a little hard work, motivation, and each other. Remember the journey to 26.2 miles begin with a single step.

Back to the blog. Feel free to post anything related to related to your running and general fitness activities and experiences. Also, any nutritional or general fitness advice is much appreciated. I sure we can all learn a lot from each other. Finally, if there is anything you guys would like added to our blog let me or one of the admins know (I will be sending out a list later).
